150 000 Euros in Undeclared Banknotes Found at Lesovo Border Checkpoint.

Customs officers found150,000 in undeclared cash on a passenger travelling in a bus with Turkish registration plates.

The case dates from July 7, when at around 2:00 a. m. a bus arrived at the checkpoint, travelling from Turkey through Bulgaria to Romania.

Following a risk analysis, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection. During the checks, officers noticed unusual behaviour by one of the passengers, a Turkish citizen.

As a result, the man was subjected to a personal search. In the pockets of his outer garment and trousers, officers found 300 banknotes with a denomination of500 each.

The total amount of seized undeclared cash was150,000.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated by an investigating customs inspector from the Burgas Customs Territorial Directorate under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor’s Office.

At the end of June, an attempt to smuggle more than 2 million cigarettes in a lorry was intercepted at the same border checkpoint.

Shortly earlier, 25 smuggled inflatable boats were also seized there during two separate inspections of lorries travelling from Turkey to Germany.
