Road surface repairs on sections of national roads leading to Black Sea resorts and border crossings with Greece will be halted during the summer, the Road Infrastructure Agency said. The aim is to improve road safety and ensure faster and more convenient travel for everyone heading on holiday to the Black Sea and the seaside resorts in neighboring Greece.

To avoid disrupting traffic, asphalt works planned for tonight from 8:00 p. m. until tomorrow morning on road I-9 — from the end of the town of Obzor to Sunny Beach, between the 172nd and 203rd kilometer — will not be introduced. The repair works will be carried out at a later stage, when traffic in the area is lighter and citizens’ travel will not be impeded.

The Road Infrastructure Agency announced that it is halting repairs in the middle of summer on roads to Bulgaria’s seaside and Greece. The agency urged drivers to be careful, observe traffic rules and speed limits, and avoid risky overtaking maneuvers that endanger the safety of all travelers.

Teams from the National Revenue Agency, the Commission for Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Tourism have begun inspections along the Black Sea coast. Daily monitoring will also be carried out at wholesale markets and marketplaces that supply hotels and restaurants with food and drinks, tax officials said. Fiscal inspectors will conduct surprise checks at restaurants, shops, attractions, parking lots and other commercial sites.

Road Infrastructure Agency Chairman Aleksandar Todorov said during the first meeting of Parliament’s Tourism Committee that the two repair works on the Trakia motorway toward Plovdiv would be completed by the end of the month. He assured that road repairs would be completed before the active tourist season. The section in Stara Zagora Region will be finished by July 3.
