At least 27 people died after a massive fire engulfed a pub in Bangkok early on Monday morning, Thailand's prime minister told reporters at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. At least 27 people were killed and dozens more were hospitalized following the blaze on July 13.

Thai officials said at least 27 people were killed and 63 others injured after the fire tore through the pub late on Sunday. The blaze began while a musician was performing. He reported seeing smoke coming from a circuit breaker before hearing an explosion. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the fire spread rapidly, with smoke believed to have been the primary cause of death.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight on Sunday, and firefighters brought it under control in about 30 minutes. Investigators will examine the ceiling materials and determine whether any emergency exits were obstructed, potentially making evacuation more difficult.

Photos from the scene show charred tables and chairs and severe damage to the interior of the pub. Many of the victims were found near the restrooms at the back of the venue, according to Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Thailand has experienced similar tragedies in the past, including a 2022 fire at a live music venue in the eastern part of the country that claimed 14 lives.
