Canada to Debut at Eurovision in 2027 in Bulgaria.

Canada will take part for the first time in the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Bulgaria next year, citing the German news agency DPA. The North American country’s participation is possible thanks to the official admission of the Canadian public broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) last week. The Geneva-based organisation brings together more than 100 members, including a number of public media outlets outside Europe.

Canada’s first participation will be in Bulgaria, after Bulgarian pop singer Dara won this year’s edition of the contest in the Austrian capital Vienna with her hit Bangaranga. This is the first debut in the contest since Australia joined in 2015. The format has long gone beyond the geographical borders of the Old Continent, with countries such as Australia and Israel already among its regular participants. The Canadian public broadcaster has received a budget of more than 93 million for its participation.

Although the contest was born in Europe, it continues to welcome the whole world, Eurovision director Martin Green said in a statement. Also today, the government in Sofia announced that it had adopted the Action Plan for preparations for Eurovision 2027, drawn up by the Organising Committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister for Human Resources Ivo Hristov. The document contains specific initiatives and tasks, deadlines for their implementation, responsible institutions and expected results, the government press service said. Days earlier, at the EBU General Assembly in Prague, BNT received high praise for winning Eurovision 2026 and for its preparations to host Eurovision 2027.
