Bulgarian Supreme Administrative Court Finally Confirms Cleaning Decision for Three Sofia Districts.

This decision clearly shows that, for the court, people’s health and cleanliness in the city stand far above the economic interests of the complainants, the deputy mayor for ecology said.

He added that the prices reached during the negotiations are economically defensible for the city.

We consider the proposed price of134 per tonne of household waste to be good, given our requirements for an automated system, inflation and the large-scale investments we expect from the operator, he said.

The director of the Sofia Inspectorate, Dr Pavlin Kodzhahristov, presented up-to-date data on field operations, stressing that efforts are currently focused on compensating for service deficits accumulated over recent months.

He announced that, alongside household waste collection, activities will also begin to clean storm drain shafts in the three districts, as well as sweeping, washing and removing accumulated deposits from the streets.

Until the new operator actually begins work on the ground, cleaning in the three districts will continue under the temporary arrangement using municipal resources and teams from neighbouring zones.

We have begun the gradual restoration of all activities we owe to citizens — from collecting green waste to cleaning underpasses and bins at public transport stops, as well as removing bulky waste, Kodzhahristov said.

Activities in the Poduyane district are being carried out by the municipal company Sofekostroy, while in the other two districts they are being handled by operators serving neighbouring areas.

Sofia Municipality will continue to provide timely information on every further development until the long-term contracts are fully finalised.
