Two patients died and one person was injured in a hospital fire in Ludwigslust, northern Germany. Around 90 firefighters responded to the alarm and extinguished the blaze.
A spokesperson for the authorities in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district clarified that the two victims were patients at the medical facility. Early this morning, police reported 34 injured people, but authorities in Ludwigslust-Parchim later said there was only one injured person, who had inhaled smoke.
The fire broke out in a patient room at the clinic in Ludwigslust at around 04:30 local time (05:30 Bulgarian time), with the flames spreading to the hospital roof. Patients and staff were evacuated from the building. A spokesperson for the local authorities said around 90 firefighters responded to the alert and managed to extinguish the fire.
A local authority representative explained that one of the victims was in the room where the fire broke out, while the other was in an adjacent room. A law enforcement spokesperson said dozens of people initially sought emergency medical help, but examinations later found that they had not been injured.
