One killed in Maine shooting involving ICE agents, days after Texas incident.

A person was shot during an operation involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Biddeford, Maine, according to officials and media reports.

The incident occurred on Monday in the town of approximately 21,000 residents, located about 24 kilometers south of Portland. Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau said state police and the Department of Public Safety responded to the scene and that he expected the FBI to investigate the shooting.

"This morning a shooting occurred in Biddeford," Fecteau wrote on Facebook, adding that authorities were gathering details about the incident.

Biddeford police referred all inquiries to ICE, while the city's mayor did not immediately comment. ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The shooting prompted calls for answers from Democratic Representative Chellie Pingree, who said key questions remain unresolved, including whether the person who was shot had a criminal record, whether the incident began as a routine traffic stop, whether officers were wearing body cameras, and how the events unfolded.

The incident comes six days after an ICE agent fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old Mexican national, during an operation in Houston, Texas.

ICE said the agent acted in self-defense after Salgado allegedly rammed a law enforcement vehicle and attempted to run over an officer. However, the agency has not released evidence supporting that account, and three eyewitnesses have disputed the official version of events.

The Houston shooting sparked protests and came amid President Donald Trump's intensified immigration enforcement campaign.
