Eight Detained After Mass Brawl Between Roma Families in Asenovgrad.

A total of eight people have been detained during a specialized police operation in the Roma neighbourhood of Asenovgrad following a clash between two families. Four of them were detained last night, and another four were detained today.

Twelve people and one police officer were injured in the incident, while one of the participants fired shots with an air rifle.

Around 250 people took part in the mass confrontation last night. According to police, there was no direct physical clash, but objects were thrown and an air rifle was fired by one of the sides.

The confrontation took place in front of a police patrol that was at the scene to maintain public order, as there had also been a breach of order involving the same two families on Friday.

Senior Commissioner Vasil Kostadinov described what happened as extremely brazen and cynical because it unfolded in front of a police patrol. The report about the clash was submitted to emergency number 112, and according to initial information, the conflict was between members of two families.

A specialized police operation is taking place in Asenovgrad with forces from the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry and the Zonal Gendarmerie Directorate to restore public order. The neighbourhood remains blocked by police forces.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case. The air rifle used in the shooting was found, seized and added to the case materials.

The 12 injured people and one police officer suffered minor injuries and were released for home treatment after medical examinations. Their lives are not in danger.
