Nearly 200 Reenactors from Three Countries Bring Plovdiv’s History to Life.

Nearly 200 historical reenactors from Bulgaria, Croatia, and Serbia are taking part in the festival Plovdiv – Ancient and Eternal: History, Ethnology, Culture and Art, which opens this evening and will continue throughout the weekend.

For the eighth consecutive year, Plovdiv will transform into a three-day arena of living history, unfolding before the eyes of the city’s residents and visitors. From June 12 to June 14, the festival will showcase its full scale, once again demonstrating its core mission—to preserve traditions and present the rich past of Bulgaria and the region in an engaging and accessible way.

During this year’s eighth edition, the City of the Seven Hills will welcome nearly 200 historical reenactors from Bulgaria, Croatia, and Serbia. If you happen to encounter heavily armed knights, elegantly dressed Roman women, imposing barbarians, or medieval warriors in the streets during these days, do not be surprised! These are the participants who will immerse Plovdiv in the atmosphere of Antiquity and the Middle Ages.

Having become one of the city’s emblematic events, the forum not only revives the spirit of bygone eras but also serves as a springboard for the encouragement and promotion of young Bulgarian talents. The program is exceptionally diverse, suitable for all ages, and promises many positive emotions and memorable moments that will be talked about long after the festival ends.

The festival is organized by the Philipopol Historical Reenactment Association with the financial support of the Municipality of Plovdiv as part of the city’s 2026 Cultural Calendar.
