Greece plans to sharply expand military drone production through a new facility that will raise annual output to about 10,000 small drones. The plant will also manufacture larger UAVs and anti-drone systems.
Production of small military drones will increase from the current 4,000 units to around 10,000 annually. During the official groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, the defense minister stated that the new plant will enable a dramatic expansion of production capacity.
An additional 600 larger drones will also be produced each year, along with systems designed to neutralize drones. The plan calls for 600 larger unmanned aerial vehicles and specialized anti-drone systems to roll off the production lines annually.
Dendias attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the factory, where he said the future defense facility would increase annual production of small military drones from 4,000 to approximately 10,000 units.
The project is part of Athens’ broader defense modernization strategy.
We must participate not only as buyers and users of systems, but also as a country that produces, designs and develops them, he said.
The minister also emphasized the importance of domestic production.
Kathimerini notes that Greece continues to invest in foreign-made drones while also pursuing a military investment program that includes French frigates and fighter jets, American combat aircraft, and air defense systems.
The country continues to allocate substantial resources to the acquisition of advanced foreign military equipment, including French frigates and fighter aircraft, American warplanes, and new air defense systems.
