GERB will not back Radev's budget due to deficit.

A deficit above 3% is a violation of the Public Finance Act, and the deficit is now 5%, Borissov said.

According to him, during the election campaign the governing parties claimed that Bulgaria was not a poor country, but that too much was being stolen. Borissov said municipalities are the foundation of society and therefore it is wrong to cut funding there.

For almost a year, persistent rumours have circulated that Rumen Radev’s party is trying to attract some of the country’s most influential mayors, mainly from GERB and the MRF. For now, the name being mentioned for support from GERB-UDF is Daniel Valchev.

Borissov said the governing parties still have time to withdraw the bill and submit a new one. He also said the party would make a decision on the presidential election in September, but at the moment he is not optimistic that there could be a joint right-wing candidate.

GERB will not support the budget and has called for the deficit to be below 3%. According to Borissov, the promise of consolidation remains only on paper. He also said the increase in social security thresholds for managers is about 70%.
