Burning Truck Blocks Traffic on Trakia Highway Near Pazardzhik.
A heavy goods vehicle caught fire at the 88-th kilometer of the Trakia Highway in the direction of Burgas, leading to a complete traffic stop. No injuries were reported, and the driver managed to pull over into the emergency lane.
Traffic at the 88th kilometre of Trakia Motorway in the direction of Burgas was temporarily restricted because of a burning heavy goods vehicle, the Road Infrastructure Agency said.
The incident occurred in the Pazardzhik area, near the junction for the city. There is currently no information about injured people.
Thanks to the quick reaction of the driver, the lorry was pulled into the emergency lane before the fire spread fully. The flames engulfed both the tractor unit and the trailer, and according to eyewitnesses, the cargo was also affected.
Police teams arrived at the scene, directed traffic and secured the perimeter. The Road Infrastructure Agency introduced a temporary diversion route to avoid the build-up of congestion in the area of the incident.
A queue of vehicles formed because of the fire. Traffic was regulated by a Traffic Police team.
The diversion route passed through Gelemenovo, where vehicles rejoined the motorway.
The Road Infrastructure Agency advised drivers to travel with increased caution and at an appropriate speed.
Later, the Road Infrastructure Agency announced that traffic at the 88th kilometre of Trakia Motorway in the direction of Burgas had been restored.
