Feature Film About Olympic Champion Ivaylo Marinov Receives Support in Varna.
A feature film about the life and sporting achievements of Olympic boxing champion Ivaylo Marinov has received support from a Varna municipal council committee. The movie will follow his journey from Bulgaria’s first world boxing title to Olympic gold.
The life and sporting career of Olympic boxing champion Ivaylo Marinov will be brought to the big screen in a feature film. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Youth Activities and Sports Committee of the Varna Municipal Council, where a positive opinion was issued regarding a request for financial support for the project. Ivaylo Marinov attended the presentation in the council’s plenary hall.
The production company behind the project has requested financial support from the Municipality of Varna for the filming of a feature movie dedicated to the life and sporting journey of Varna-born Olympic boxing champion Ivaylo Marinov. The Youth Activities and Sports Committee supported the request with a positive recommendation, according to a report by Moreto.
The film will follow the life and sporting achievements of the legendary boxer, from winning Bulgaria’s first world boxing title to his Olympic triumph. The screenplay is based on his biographical book and traces his path from the country’s first world boxing title to the fulfillment of his dream of Olympic gold. The movie will tell the story of one of the greatest figures in Bulgarian and world boxing, born and raised in Varna, while also revealing lesser-known moments from his life, including Turkey’s attempt in the 1980s to recruit him for the then-enormous sum of one million German marks.
According to the production team, more than half of the filming days will take place in Varna, allowing many of the city’s iconic locations to be featured in the movie.
The film will be directed by Todor Chapkanov, who has more than 40 feature productions to his name and has worked with actors such as Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone.
The project has received support from the Municipality of Varna following a positive opinion issued by the Youth Activities and Sports Committee of the Municipal Council. However, its implementation has been delayed by a series of legal proceedings. Producers stated that a significantly larger financial resource is now required to complete the project.
