Qatar and Saudi Arabia Accuse Iran of Tanker Attacks.
Qatar summoned Iran's deputy ambassador over an attack on a Qatari LNG tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and accused Tehran of endangering international shipping and global energy supplies.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Iran bears full responsibility for the attack on a liquefied natural gas tanker.
The ministry condemned the attack and called on Iran to immediately stop all threatening actions.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that Iran had struck a Saudi tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran condemned Qatar over accusations that the Islamic Republic was responsible for the attack on one of the emirate’s vessels, after Doha said Tehran had attacked a liquefied natural gas tanker off the coast of Oman, AFP reported.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Qatar’s accusations against Iran over the alleged attack in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday against a vessel linked to the country were suspicious and contradicted the principle of good neighbourliness.
He described them as unacceptable, the state news agency IRNA reported.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) said earlier that a tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz had been hit by an unidentified projectile.
According to the security consultancy EOS Risk Group, a fire broke out on board the tanker after the attack and the crew abandoned the vessel.
