Mayor of Kubrat Village Saves Baby Stork Hanging from Nest.
The mayor of Zvanartsi village, Husnie Fikret, personally organized and participated in rescuing a baby stork entangled in sisal and hanging from its nest. Using a cherry picker, she freed the bird, which will be transported for treatment to the Wildlife Rescue Center in Stara Zagora.
A real rescue operation unfolded today in the Kubrat village of Zvunartsi, where the village mayor, Hyusnie Fikret, personally joined efforts to save a distressed young stork tangled in twine and hanging helplessly from its native nest. After returning from the folklore festival in the neighboring village of Yuper, the mayor received a report about a stork chick in distress.
The bird was hanging at a height of nearly seven meters, and its life was seriously at risk. Since response time was crucial and help from the competent institutions could not arrive immediately, Hyusnie took a bold initiative and organized a rescue operation with the help of local residents and volunteers. Using a front loader, she reached the nest, where she managed to carefully free the young stork from the twine wrapped around its leg. After the bird was rescued, it was placed in a soft blanket and taken to a safe place.
In two days, the bird is expected to be transported to the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water (RIEW) in Ruse, from where it will be sent for treatment and care at the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora. The stork chick is already under constant care and has been provided with food and water, including fish. Thanks to the quick intervention of its rescuers, the bird has a chance to live and recover.
