Kostadin Kostadinov: Turkey Is Making Claims on Bulgarian Land and Water.

Turkey’s foreign minister has made claims regarding Bulgarian land, according to Revival party leader Kostadin Kostadinov. In his remarks, he commented on the meeting between Bulgaria’s foreign minister and a Turkish representative and sharply criticized the actions of the Bulgarian government.

Speaking from the parliamentary rostrum, he described the recent diplomatic talks as a retreat from Bulgaria’s national interests. Kostadinov criticized the foreign policy pursued by the caretaker government and its official meetings with representatives of Greece and Turkey, according to the party’s press office. He told lawmakers that, within the span of two weeks, the country had witnessed actions that he believes have harmed the national interest.

Kostadinov commented on the meeting between Bulgarian Foreign Minister Petrova-Chamova and her Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan. However, according to the Revival leader, the situation involving Turkey is significantly more concerning. He pointed to the visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who, in his view, is insisting that Bulgaria continue providing water resources to Greece despite the expiration of the relevant agreement and the lack of a legal basis.

Kostadinov described Fidan as a predator on the international stage and stated that Ankara is imposing ultimatum-like conditions for renegotiating the unfavorable contract with Botas in exchange for commitments to build the Black Sea motorway and develop new joint energy projects. He linked these developments to statements by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, according to whom new motorway routes in Bulgaria will be built through concession agreements.

He added that while Greece has laid claim to Bulgarian water resources, Turkey is now making claims not only to the water but also to Bulgarian land. Kostadinov emphasized that Fidan is the person directing affairs in Syria at present, shaping policy in Northern Iraq, intervening in the affairs of Azerbaijan, and overseeing Turkish policy in Northern Cyprus.
