A 36-year-old man was arrested on the Trakia Highway with over 500 grams of fentanyl worth nearly 31 000 euros. The District Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv charged him with drug possession for distribution.

Officers from the Criminal Police Department at the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry detained a 36-year-old man after a large quantity of fentanyl was found in his car. A large-scale police operation in Plovdiv Region intercepted an attempt to distribute high-risk narcotic substances. The case dates to June 26, when law enforcement officers stopped a car for inspection near the turnoff for the village of Trilistnik on the Trakia motorway. The vehicle was travelling toward Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.

During specialized actions by officers from the Criminal Police Department, more than 500 grams of fentanyl were seized, the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said. During a search of the vehicle’s trunk, officers found a travel bag containing a package wrapped in black tape. An expert report confirmed that the package contained more than 500 grams of fentanyl, and the market value of the seized quantity was estimated at 30,993 euros.

The Plovdiv District Prosecutor’s Office charged and detained a 36-year-old man for possession with intent to distribute half a kilogram of fentanyl worth a total of 30,993 euros, the prosecutor’s office press center said. The driver and his passenger were detained in connection with the case, and pre-trial proceedings have been opened under the supervision of the Plovdiv District Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor’s office specified that a man identified by the initial A. has been charged in the case and detained for up to 72 hours by order of the supervising prosecutor.
