Interior Minister: Investigation Launched into Whether Delyan Peevski's Plane Is His Own.

Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told journalists at a ministry event that, over an extended period, a private aircraft had been used only by Delyan Peevski.

The question arises whether a lawyer who accompanied Peevski represents companies that acquired assets from KTB, and whether there is a link between payments for some of the flights and the acquisition of those assets, Demerdzhiev said.

The inspection also concerns the people who accompanied Peevski, as well as potential links to assets from the failed KTB bank. Demerdzhiev raised the question of how a person sanctioned under the Magnitsky Act could afford to pay for these flights and why, after being included on the list over information about corruption on a massive scale, this continued.

This is not a matter of personal interest, but a matter of checking whether there is an unhealthy merger between politicians, magistrates and business — something we call oligarchy, and something we are fighting against, Demerdzhiev said.

He explained that he had no concerns about the reports sent by DPS to Europol and Interpol. According to him, they rather show that the people asking the questions have the answers, and that those answers are uncomfortable.

Peevski accused Demerdzhiev of illegally investigating his private life. The minister also drew attention to attempts to shift the focus of public attention.

Demerdzhiev also said that Peevski and Desislava Atanasova travelled together to Dubai in 2024. According to him, an inspection by the Interior Ministry’s Internal Security Directorate is also under way.

He believes there is a readiness for Atanasova to be sacrificed as an indirect victim in the case.
