Bulgarian Tax Agency Launches Summer Control Campaign on Black Sea Coast.

The National Revenue Agency is launching its summer inspection campaign to monitor compliance with tax and social security legislation along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. NRA employees, together with representatives of other institutions, will again monitor and counter attempts to unjustifiably raise the prices of goods and services this year.

The main goal of the inspection campaign is to achieve good fiscal discipline, increase the share of businesses that voluntarily comply with the rules, ensure an equal business environment and record real turnover. From June 29, hundreds of sites along the coast will be placed under active observation. Daily monitoring will also be carried out at wholesale markets and marketplaces that supply hotels and restaurants with food and beverages. Fiscal inspectors will conduct surprise checks in restaurants, shops, attractions, parking lots and other commercial sites.

They will make test purchases using the mystery shopper method. NRA employees will also carry out open observations, during which they will remain at a site for a certain period, monitor sales and compare the results with previous periods.

During the inspection campaign, the agency will also monitor whether seasonal workers are hired under employment contracts and whether the requirements of social security legislation are being observed. The NRA reminds consumers that they have the right to withhold payment to a trader until they receive a fiscal receipt.
