Major Interior Ministry Operation in Nessebar, Director of Water Utility and Deputy Detained.

A large-scale specialized operation by the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry is being carried out in Nessebar Municipality. Several people have been detained in the operation, including the director of the local water utility and his deputy.

The actions began around noon on Friday as part of a corruption investigation. The situation in the seaside town remains highly dynamic, and a forensic laboratory van has been positioned in front of the water supply company’s building. Undercover Interior Ministry officers and uniformed police have been deployed in Nessebar itself, as well as in the nearby villages of Kosharitsa and Tankovo. According to information that has not yet been confirmed, the main arrests were made in the village of Kosharitsa, where the head of the local regional water utility unit and his deputy were taken away in handcuffs. Two other people were taken for questioning along with them, and it remains unclear whether they will stay in custody permanently.

According to unofficial sources, the operation is linked to a corruption scheme, and the officials were allegedly caught while receiving a bribe of 8,000 euros in marked banknotes.

At this stage, the Economic Police in Burgas and the prosecutor’s office, under whose supervision the investigative actions are being carried out, have declined official comment because the procedures are still ongoing. Burgas police are expected to hold a briefing later today, at which they will officially announce details of the operation and present confirmed information about the case.
