Nikolay Popov Condemns Gloating Comments After Death of Vesela Lecheva's Son.

Nikolay Popov has called for greater compassion following the tragic death of Martin Velev, the 36-year-old son of Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Vesela Lecheva.

In a social media post, Popov strongly condemned the offensive and hateful comments that appeared online after news of the tragedy.

I am appalled by the ugly and inhumane comments that appeared on social media after this tragedy. Shame on those who write malicious and insulting words about a grieving mother, he wrote.

Popov said that, as a parent who has also experienced the loss of a child, he understands the overwhelming pain Lecheva is enduring.

I know this pain. There is nothing more terrible than a parent having to bury their child, he said.

According to Popov, Lecheva has already endured a major personal loss in the past and is now facing another unimaginable tragedy. He stressed that no one deserves such suffering and that it should never become a reason for hateful comments.

Martin Velev died in a jet ski accident at Zografou Beach in Sithonia, Halkidiki, Greece. His death prompted an outpouring of condolences, while also sparking a broader discussion about empathy and online behaviour.
