Nine European countries and Ukraine have formed a new defense coalition in Paris aimed at strengthening Europe's missile defense capabilities, according to AFP.
The initiative seeks to address the continent's limited air and missile defense capacity, which has become increasingly important amid continued Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine.
The meeting is co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also traveled to Paris to attend the event, organized by the Coalition of the Willing to strengthen Ukraine's air and missile defense. Earlier, Zelenskyy said Ukraine currently lacks the means to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
According to the Élysée Palace, 23 heads of state and government are participating in the meeting.
Bulgaria is not participating in the defense coalition. However, President Rumen Radev traveled to Paris at the invitation of President Macron to attend the Bastille Day celebrations on July 14, France's national holiday.
