AI-Generated Video Linked to €33,000 Investment Fraud
62-годишна жена от област Плевен е била ощетена с 33 000 евро след инвестиционна измама, при която е била подведена от AI-генериран видеорепортаж. Разследването се води под ръководството на В Районна прокуратура – Плевен.
Under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Pleven, an investigation is underway into a large-scale investment fraud scheme in which a 62-year-old woman from the Pleven region lost €33,000.
According to the information gathered so far, the victim was misled by a video report circulating on a social media platform that is suspected of having been generated using artificial intelligence. The video featured well-known public figures—a television host and a political leader—promoting an investment program that promised high returns and improved financial prospects for investors.
After following links provided in the report, the woman received a Viber call from a man claiming to be a manager of an investment company. He convinced her to transfer all of her savings to bank accounts specified by him, assuring her that the funds would be invested for profit.
Following the fraudster’s instructions, the transfers were made in installments, with each transaction remaining below €10,000. Trusting the caller, the victim transferred a total of €33,000 through several transactions, after which all communication with her was terminated.
The investigation remains ongoing under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Pleven, with authorities making every effort to establish the full facts of the case and identify those responsible.
