Prof. Georgi Rachev: July Could Be the First Normal Month in 10 Years.
The climatologist forecasts a brief warming with temperatures up to 38°, but July may turn out to be the first normal month in a decade. A new cooling is expected on Sunday and Monday.
Georgi Rachev said temperatures in Bulgaria will begin rising from today, with highs exceeding 30°C across most of the country on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
In some areas, temperatures are expected to reach between 36°C and 38°C. However, Rachev said this will not be a prolonged heatwave, as the hottest conditions will last only a few days. Speaking on bTV, he contrasted Bulgaria's forecast with Western Europe, where a new intense heatwave is expected, including temperatures of up to 40°C in Spain.
Temperatures will gradually increase throughout the country from today, with most regions recording highs above 30°C by the middle of the week. Rachev emphasized that the hot spell will be brief.
Localized thunderstorms are still possible over the Black Sea coast, but the atmosphere is expected to gradually stabilize, bringing calmer and sunnier weather.
According to Rachev, Bulgaria remains under the influence of relatively low atmospheric pressure, which is typical for the middle of July.
He added that the frequent alternation between warmer and cooler periods makes this summer resemble the retro summers of the past.
