Prof. Valchev: Education Must Preserve Language and Mathematics.

The most important thing is to try to preserve the core that will follow the child throughout life. That is the Bulgarian language and mathematics. The child must know the two key systems with which to communicate. But we do not have agreement on this. Different professional groups are pulling in different directions, overloading children and so on, Professor Valchev said.

He also drew attention to the subject Virtues and Religion, noting that it is not merely informational. According to him, religion teaches precisely the virtues which, in the three major monotheistic religions, are organized around the Ten Commandments and do not differ substantially.

Valchev also commented on the current amendments to the Judiciary Act, highlighting systemic problems in the Supreme Judicial Council. If nothing is done about this issue, in one or two years we will be having the same conversation. Experience shows that there is a systemic problem and, accordingly, something in the powers and in the institutional balance in which the Supreme Judicial Council participates is not as it should be, he said.
