Prosecution Seeks Permanent Detention for Truck Driver in Trakia Highway Crash.

The man has been charged with causing the death of a 40-year-old man through negligence and inflicting bodily injuries on two other people in a road traffic accident. The crash occurred after the truck he was driving crossed the central guardrail, entered the opposite lane, and collided successively with two passenger vehicles.

The driver was initially detained for 72 hours under a prosecutor's order. The 56-year-old, identified as Angel Iliev, is accused of negligently causing one death and moderate bodily injuries to two occupants of the vehicles involved in the collision.

The truck broke through the median barriers on the Trakia motorway before crashing into two cars traveling in the opposite direction. One of the drivers died at the scene, while two other people were injured and taken to hospital. One of the injured suffered a fractured collarbone and has since been discharged, while the other remains under medical observation.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, and the investigation is continuing under the supervision of the prosecution. Authorities are expected to establish all circumstances surrounding the crash, including the reasons that led the heavy goods vehicle to enter oncoming traffic.

At a court hearing scheduled for tomorrow, magistrates will decide whether to grant the prosecution's request to keep the defendant in custody until the investigation is completed. His driver's license has also been revoked.
