Police Seize Record 440 kg of Laughing Gas in Sozopol.

In a specialized police operation in Sozopol, 440 kilograms of laughing gas were seized, the largest amount ever found in Burgas region. A 37-year-old man with a criminal record from the village of Ivaylo, Pazardzhik region, was detained.

Police officers in Sozopol received a report about the distribution of nitrous oxide in nightclubs and entertainment venues. During the operation, three vehicles and a pallet with 80 boxes containing large nitrous oxide canisters were found in a parking lot in front of a commercial site.

According to police, the value of the seized canisters and balloons amounts to about 15,000. The case is the latest in a series of intensified checks against the illegal distribution of nitrous oxide along Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast during the summer season.

In a previous operation in Sozopol, police seized 1,460 nitrous oxide canisters, nearly 300 balloons and 30 grams of cocaine, while specialized police actions led to the detention of ten people for offences related to narcotic substances and the illegal distribution of nitrous oxide. Nine case files, one expedited proceeding and one pre-trial proceeding were opened over the sale of nitrous oxide to minors.

During the operation in the Sunny Beach resort, officers identified people in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and nitrous oxide, as well as two men for whom there is information that they had been distributing nitrous oxide.

A record quantity of nitrous oxide – 440 kilograms – was seized today during a specialized police operation by officers from the Sozopol Police Department. According to police, this is the largest quantity of nitrous oxide established so far during a police operation in Burgas Region.
