U.S. Strikes Iranian Missile, Drone and Radar Sites After Cargo Ship Attack.

Central Command, or Centcom, said it had struck missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar positions on Friday in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship on Thursday, which halted a planned evacuation of sailors stuck in the region.

The military said it hit Iranian targets on Friday over Iran’s drone attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first American strikes on Iran since the two countries agreed to extend an already rickety ceasefire last week.

The strikes targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities and radar sites.

Tehran said the cargo ship was attacked because it was using an unauthorised route to transit through the Gulf waterway.

Centcom described the American strikes as "a powerful response" to the drone attack a day earlier.

"The unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire," it said in a statement.

The Maritime Trade Operations Centre said the vessel was off the coast of Oman.
