Space X launches biggest IPO in history as shares surge.
Space X made its historic Nasdaq debut in the largest IPO ever, valued at $1.77 trillion, with shares surging 30% shortly after launch.
Space X’s initial public offering (IPO) became the largest in history, with the controversial entrepreneur Elon Musk saying his goal is to take humanity to Mars. The listing placed the company among Wall Street’s top 10 firms, close to Broadcom and Meta Platforms.
Space X’s Nasdaq debut marked a historic Wall Street milestone, with $75 billion in shares sold and an opening valuation of $1.77 trillion. Shares quickly surged 30%, making CEO Elon Musk the first-ever trillionaire.
"Space X wants to be able to take you to the Moon, take you to Mars, and ultimately beyond," Musk said at an event in Starbase, Texas. It is hard to believe that a small company that started in a warehouse in El Segundo is now going public with the largest IPO ever.
The rocket company, founded in 2022, has grown into a major satellite operator and has also integrated Musk’s artificial intelligence company x AI, which includes the social media platform X. However, to achieve its goal of making life multi-planetary, Space X requires billions more than it currently generates from its rocket and satellite operations.
Between the start of 2025 and March 31, 2026, the company reported losses of $8.7 billion. If you saved $1,000 a day for 2 million years, you still wouldn’t match Musk’s wealth.
