Sofia Municipality Increases Capital of Sofia Electric Transport for New Vehicles.
Sofia Municipality is taking financial steps to renew urban transport by increasing the capital of Sofia Electric Transport through a cash contribution. The funds will be used for advance payments for new trams, trolleybuses, and electric buses.
Sofia Municipality is taking the necessary financial steps to ensure the implementation of the public transport renewal programme and the delivery of new vehicles.
This is provided for in a report submitted to the Sofia Municipal Council on increasing the capital of Stolichen Elektrotransport EAD through a cash contribution from the sole owner of the capital, Sofia Municipality.
The report was submitted by deputy mayors Georgi Klisurski and Viktor Chaushev. It provides for Sofia Municipality to make a cash contribution through the issuance of new shares, with the funds to be used solely for advance payments for the purchase of new vehicles.
The proposal enables Sofia Municipality to continue its consistent policy of modernising public transport and building a higher-quality and more efficient transport system in Sofia.
The measure is aimed at investments under the programme for renewing the rolling stock and developing the accompanying infrastructure of surface public transport in Sofia Municipality for the period 2024–2030.
The planned deliveries include 20 new low-floor trams, 40 new 18-metre trolleybuses, 35 new 12-metre trolleybuses, 50 new electric buses — 35 standard and 15 articulated — as well as charging infrastructure for them.
The renewal of public transport vehicles is key to making the system more attractive.
Public procurement procedures have already been carried out by Stolichen Elektrotransport, and contracts with selected contractors have been signed for some of them.
