Terziev: Care for Small Things Changes Sofia

Sofia Municipality has carried out a series of improvements in the central part of the city, aimed at renovating public spaces and preserving Sofia’s historical appearance.

The mayor presented the completed renovation, restoration and reconstruction activities at several key locations in the city centre. Among them are repairs and cleaning of part of the underpass at Nezavisimost Square, including deep cleaning and powder coating of the metal elements.

The space has been enriched with visual materials telling the story of the vanished Targovska Street. They were provided by the archives of the Regional History Museum – Sofia.

The granite cladding, a retaining wall and the pavement leading to Zhelyo Zhelev Square have also been renovated. New planters with greenery and seasonal flowers have been installed.

The historic railing in the area of the buildings of the State Archives Agency, the Bulgarian National Bank and Nezavisimost Street has also been restored, with a photo exhibition of archival images of the vanished street arranged there.

Great change happens not only through large investments, but also through constant care, attention to detail and respect for Sofia’s history, Terziev said.

He stressed that although all problems cannot be solved at once, the municipality is already working on spaces in the city that have long been neglected.

The exhibition also includes the project It Grows but Does Not Age, which presents the history of the capital up to the mid-20th century through semantic and 3D technologies.
