Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev announced that, after nearly two decades of inaction, the municipality has removed a 140-square-meter illegal structure from Borisova Gradina Park near Ariana Lake.
According to Terziev, the building had existed without a contract, legal basis, or rent payments, occupying public land for private purposes for years. He added that the structure had not even been used for its intended purpose in recent years.
The mayor stressed that the demolition did not cost the municipality any money and forms part of the city's consistent policy to eliminate the illegal occupation of public spaces.
Terziev also highlighted the importance of adopting Sofia's new Detailed Development Plan for Borisova Gradina. He said the plan would provide long-term protection for the park, limit arbitrary urban planning decisions, and place the public interest above private interests.
He noted that such measures are essential to returning the city to its residents, expanding green spaces, and strengthening public order. The municipal administration also pointed to similar actions, including the removal of illegal structures at the Kapitolia car dealership and near Iskar Reservoir.
I have always had zero tolerance for the illegal occupation of public land, Terziev said.
