Three killed in serious crash on Hemus highway near Shumen.

Today, the duty unit of the Shumen Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry received a report of a serious road accident on Hemus Motorway, in a section with temporary traffic organisation in the direction of Varna.

Police, fire service and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

After arriving, they established that the driver of a Volkswagen car with Shumen registration plates, carrying five people from Varna toward Shumen, had collided head-on with an oncoming minibus, also with Shumen registration plates.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the car, a 67-year-old man, and a 48-year-old woman travelling as a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.

Two children, aged 7 and 11, as well as a 24-year-old man, were also travelling in the car. The 11-year-old child died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.

The death toll from the serious crash between the car and the minibus on Hemus Motorway in the Shumen area has therefore reached three.

The 7-year-old child has been admitted to the hospital in Shumen in serious condition, with doctors fighting to save the child’s life.

The 24-year-old man who was travelling in the car has fractures but is not in immediate life-threatening condition.

The driver of the minibus, a 51-year-old man, was also transported to the Shumen hospital. He was admitted with traumatic injuries but is not in life-threatening condition.

Traffic in the area has been redirected via road I-2, the old road to Varna.
