Trump Announces Great Deal on Iran War

At the start of an Oval Office event, Donald Trump announced: We have just reached a great deal on the war with Iran, adding that he expects the fragile ceasefire to be extended in the coming days.

This came just hours after he threatened to strike Iran very hard and take full control of its oil industry. Earlier, Trump issued renewed warnings to Iran, saying the United States would deliver a very heavy strike that evening. The U.S. president later announced he was cancelling planned large-scale airstrikes and bombings against Iran.

Spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei said in a phone interview on state television that the text of the agreement is largely finalized, but stressed that contradictions in the U.S. position are creating turbulence. Tehran insists that mediators remain active, but nothing has been definitively agreed.

The past two days have been marked by renewed exchanges of strikes between the United States and Iran, bringing the region closer to a full-scale war. The U.S. attacks began after Trump accused Iran of downing an American military helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian side said the strikes rendered the ceasefire meaningless, though it did not declare it ended.

Despite the cancellation of military strikes, the United States will not ease economic or military pressure on Tehran at this stage. The naval blockade will remain fully in force until this deal is finalized – the time and place of signing will be announced soon, he added, according to BTA.
