Trump tours East Potomac Park golf course, eyes major tournaments.

President Donald Trump on Sunday surveyed several of his construction projects around the nation’s capital, later suggesting that his redevelopment of East Potomac Golf Links would enable it to host a premier tournament. Trump toured the East Potomac Park golf course with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and other officials.

Trump toured the course with Burgum, several aides, golf course architect Tom Fazio and his son, Gavin Fazio. The president also inspected updates to Lafayette Park on the north side of the White House and had his motorcade drive around the area where he plans to build a triumphal arch.

The president’s redevelopment of the course is the subject of a lawsuit in U.S. District Court. It is unclear when the course could host any major tournaments, as venues are chosen several years before the events. Open is scheduled through 2051, though there are available slots in 2043,2046 and 2048. The PGA Championship is set through 2035. The National Park Service said last month that the debris tested positive for lead, chromium and other toxic metals.

Trump complained in his post about the condition of the grass and the sprinkler system at the public golf course, but debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing has also been dumped on the grounds.
