Wholesale Prices of Fruits and Vegetables Continue to Decline.
The Wholesale Market Price Index fell by 2.56% over the past week. Zucchini and tomatoes recorded the sharpest declines among vegetables, while cherries saw the biggest drop among fruits.
Over the past week, wholesale prices for most fruits and vegetables, as well as some basic food products, declined, according to the weekly bulletin of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (SCCEM).
The index's base level of 1.000 points dates back to 2005.
Among vegetables, the sharpest decline was recorded for zucchini, which fell by nearly 27% to 0.84 per kilogram. Tomatoes followed with a drop of almost 22% to1.50 per kilogram, cabbage declined by more than 16% to 0.52 per kilogram, and cucumbers fell by around 16.5% to1.10 per kilogram. The price of red peppers decreased by 7.77% to 2.54 per kilogram, while green peppers dropped by 16.60% to1.94 per kilogram.
Among fruits, the largest decline was recorded in cherry prices, which fell by nearly 20%. Prices of apples and lemons also declined, while strawberries rose by more than 13%.
Red and green peppers also became cheaper, while potatoes, mature onions, and carrots recorded slight price increases. Green lettuce rose by 4.05% to 0.77 per kilogram, while potatoes increased by 8.36% to0.70 per kilogram, mature onions by 6.78% to 0.63 per kilogram, and carrots by 0.23% to0.87 per kilogram.
