The price to buy out compulsory military service in Turkey has reached a record 472 653 liras (8827 euros) after a 13,52% indexation in July. The amount is indexed twice a year according to inflation, and approved candidates serve only 28 days.
The fee for buying out Turkey’s six-month mandatory conscription service has risen sharply, reaching a record 472,653 lira, or8,827.
Authorities in Ankara traditionally index the amount twice a year — in January and July — in line with inflation levels in the country. In July, the fee increased by 13.52%, rising from the previous 416,361 lira, or7,777.
Applications to buy out military service can be submitted through the government’s electronic portal or in person at military districts across the country. Approved applicants are not fully exempt from military obligations, but instead of the regular six months, they undergo a shortened 28-day basic military training course.
In Turkey, regular conscription lasts six months for conscripts and up to one year for reserve officers. The practice of paid military service has been applied intermittently in different periods since 1987, while in its current regulatory form it has been in permanent use since 2019.
According to the latest Global Firepower ranking for 2026, which assesses the conventional military capacity of 145 countries around the world, the active strength of Turkey’s armed forces stands at between 480,000 and 550,000 personnel.
