Turkey Imposes Temporary Sea Bathing Ban Due to Dangerous Conditions.

The restrictions affect popular destinations along the Black Sea coast, as well as settlements on the coast of the Sea of Marmara, with the aim of protecting the lives and health of tourists. Local administrations are taking urgent steps to prevent incidents involving holidaymakers in risky areas.

Among the most seriously affected destinations is the well-known resort of Şile near Istanbul, one of the preferred summer holiday spots for both residents of the metropolis and foreign visitors. The restrictions also affect coastal towns along the Sea of Marmara, including Tekirdağ, Kocaeli and Kırklareli.

The local administration in Şile banned entry into the sea on most beach areas because of strong waves and the formation of dangerous underwater currents. The only exceptions to the restriction in the area are Ayazma and Ağva beaches.

Because of dangerous sea conditions, authorities in a number of coastal areas in Turkey have temporarily banned swimming in the sea. An official swimming ban has been announced in a long list of Black Sea provinces, including Trabzon, Ordu, Giresun, Rize, Artvin and Samsun.

Turkish meteorological services said the sea remains rough and bathing conditions in these regions pose serious risks. The dangerous situation along the Black Sea coast prompted a swift response from the institutions.
