U.S. and Iran Reach Peace Deal, Pakistan Says.

The naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will be lifted.

President Trump, Iran and Pakistani mediators say a deal has been reached to end the war between the U. S. and Iran. Trump announced the agreement on social media on Sunday. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country played a key mediating role in the negotiations, confirmed the deal, saying: "Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon." Sharif also credited Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey with helping reach the agreement. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the 60-day negotiations will begin only after verification of U. S. commitments, including commitments related to ending the war, lifting the siege and releasing assets. Iranian state media said the Strait of Hormuz will be legally run in cooperation between Iran and Oman.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the heads of the two delegations will hold talks on Friday to determine arrangements for the upcoming negotiations, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
