U.S. strikes Iran for third straight night; Trump says deal still possible.

U.S. forces launched strikes on Iran for a third consecutive night early Tuesday, as hostilities continued to escalate despite President Donald Trump's statement that a diplomatic agreement remained possible.

Central Command said on X that its forces successfully struck military targets across Iran, including Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas, during an operation that lasted approximately five hours.

The latest wave of attacks marked a further escalation in the renewed conflict between the United States and Iran.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted several U.S. -related facilities, including weapons support warehouses, a satellite communications center and a residential building used by U.S. forces in Bahrain, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.

The confrontation comes as Iran and the United States continue to compete for influence over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which roughly one-fifth of the world's crude oil and natural gas shipments traditionally pass during peacetime.

President Trump also suggested that his administration could begin charging transit fees for ships passing through the strait, reversing an earlier indication that no such tolls would be imposed.

Following the latest U.S. strikes, the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Defence said Iranian missile attacks hit two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, killing one mariner and injuring eight others. Iran also said it carried out strikes on Bahrain.
