Varna Court Sentences Two for Theft of Branded Clothes Using Aluminum Foil.

The Varna District Court imposed different sentences on two defendants, aged 34 and 30, for the theft of branded clothes. The 34-year-old, who has no prior convictions, received a 3-month prison sentence suspended with a 3-year probation period. The 30-year-old, who committed the offence as a dangerous repeat offender, was sentenced to an effective 6 months in prison under an initial strict regime.

The theft was committed on April 11, after the two men had agreed in advance to steal branded clothes and then sell them. They placed boxes pre-wrapped in aluminium foil in their backpacks so they could put the stolen goods inside and block the signal from the magnetic security tags attached to the clothes. In this way, they managed to steal a total of 6 T-shirts and one pair of sports trousers from well-known fashion brands.

Immediately after the offence, the two left the store and headed to the bus station to sell the stolen items. During a check by a police patrol, officers found the foil-wrapped boxes and the clothes with attached magnetic security tags in their backpacks.

The sentences were imposed under an agreement reached between the parties and approved by the court, and the material damages caused by the offence have been compensated.
