Varna Region Takes Preventive Fire Safety Measures
Institutions in Varna Region discussed preparations for the fire season. The project Employment Without Barriers to support volunteer formations was also presented.
Representatives of municipalities and the Varna Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection discussed preparations for the fire-risk period, the risk of fires, the need for an information campaign for citizens and maintaining a high level of readiness to respond to disasters, accidents and fires. The meeting was hosted by Regional Governor Mario Smarkov, under whose auspices the campaign will be organised and measures to limit fires during the summer season will be coordinated.
During the discussions, it was emphasised that the increasing frequency of natural disasters and extreme weather events requires strong prevention and coordination between institutions and municipalities. Commissioner Stoyan Stoyanov presented the readiness of the response services and the preventive measures undertaken jointly with the Interior Ministry authorities. Online information materials have also been prepared, aimed at preventing fires in forest areas, farmland, resort complexes, tourist sites and establishments. Special attention was paid to the readiness of municipal volunteer formations, their numbers, technical equipment and coordination with the fire service.
Representatives of the labour offices also took part in the meeting and presented the Employment Without Barriers project. It will provide up to six months of subsidised employment for disadvantaged people, who will take part in activities related to the prevention of natural disasters, overcoming their consequences and measures linked to climate change. Participants in the meeting agreed that the programme would support the volunteer formations in the region during the fire-risk season.
