WIPO Prepares AI Resources for SMEs, Warns of Scams.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is preparing a series of resources dedicated to artificial intelligence and intended for small and medium-sized enterprises, the Bulgarian Patent Office said.

The first guide, Self-Learning Machines: An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, will be officially presented next week during the AI for Good Global Summit 2026.

At the event, WIPO and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will organise a joint Intellectual Property Management Clinic aimed at entrepreneurs in the field of artificial intelligence.

The publication provides an introduction to the main issues related to artificial intelligence and intellectual property and aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises in adopting and using AI technologies.

It will be supplemented by a second guide, How to Read Licence Agreements for Users of Artificial Intelligence Applications and Services, the Patent Office said.

At the same time, the World Intellectual Property Organization is warning of increasing attempts at fraud through fake emails, phone calls and payment requests targeting applicants and holders of intellectual property rights.

Fraudsters often use the name, logo or other elements of the Organization’s identity to create the impression of official correspondence, the institution said.

WIPO urges users to carefully check the source of any communication related to payments or services in the field of intellectual property and not to take action if they have doubts about its authenticity.

Up-to-date information on identified fraudulent practices and recommendations for recognising them has been published on WIPO’s dedicated fraud warning page.

The announcement was made as part of the partnership initiative between BTA and the Bulgarian Patent Office. It provides for the joint section Created in Bulgaria to present each week both Bulgarians entered in the Patent Office’s Golden Book and the activities of the Patent Office.
