Ukrainian Teacher Passed Military Position Coordinates to Russia’s GRU.

The teacher had been recruited by Russian military intelligence.

Ukraine’s Security Service uncovered her activities in October 2024. Investigators found that the teacher had used a messaging application to transmit the coordinates of Ukrainian military positions to a contact within Russia’s military intelligence agency (GRU). He was identified as the commander of a drone operators unit within the 186th Reconnaissance Battalion of the Russian military group codenamed Dnepr.

The woman first came to the attention of Russian intelligence services after posting pro-Kremlin comments in chats on her Telegram channel. After being recruited, she traveled around Kherson on foot and in her own vehicle, photographing locations where Ukrainian personnel and military equipment were concentrated. She compiled the collected information into intelligence reports and sent it to the Russian serviceman in the form of photographs of potential targets marked on Google Maps.

The entire Russian-controlled part of the Kherson region in southern Ukraine is without electricity due to disruptions in the power grid in the neighboring Zaporizhzhia region, TASS reported, citing the Khersonenergo company. Earlier, Moscow-appointed Zaporizhzhia Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said that Ukrainian drone attacks had caused power outages in part of the region.

Several Russian regions declared drone alerts overnight. A number of airports across the country have also been closed, TASS reported, citing regional authorities.

Russia has declared these regions, along with two other Ukrainian regions—Donetsk and Luhansk—as annexed. However, it does not fully control any of the four regions.
