First Day of Enforcement: 485 Trucks Caught Overtaking Illegally.

Speaking to Nova TV, the director of the National Toll Administration, Prof. Asenov, said that 485 violators had been identified on the very first day.

According to him, the data on these 485 violators has been sent electronically to the relevant regional directorates of the Interior Ministry, while foreign drivers in particular have been included in the so-called white list.

This means that we have verified that there are enough prohibitory signs in the control zones to indicate to drivers that heavy goods vehicles are not allowed to overtake in those areas, Asenov said. He added that the National Toll Administration had carried out an inspection and a full check of the road sign system. Asenov also said that the mechanism with Turkey had long been operational, as checks are possible there.

The National Toll Administration is introducing a new function in the toll system that will make it possible to detect heavy goods vehicles using the overtaking lane in violation of existing restrictions, the Road Infrastructure Agency said. The new mechanism was developed on the model of the already operating control system for driving in the emergency lane and will apply from July 1, 2026, in sections where restrictions on heavy goods vehicles have been introduced with road sign B25 and where toll administration control points are located.

The issue of violations by heavy goods vehicles, as well as the quality of road construction, has become particularly sensitive recently after a driver swept a car into oncoming traffic on the Trakia motorway near Zimnitsa in Yambol Region, killing two children and one of the fathers.
