Driver Arrested with 4,60 Blood Alcohol Level in Bistritsa.
A 45-year-old man from Bistritsa was arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level of 4,60, detected during a field test. This is among the highest recorded levels in recent years.
Sofia police have reported an extremely serious case of drunk driving after a driver was caught with a breathalyzer reading of 4.60 blood alcohol concentration during a roadside test in Bistritsa.
The violation was detected during a police check following a report of dangerous driving, said Commissioner Lyubomir Minkov, head of Sofia's Eighth Police Precinct. Officers located the driver during a patrol, and the breathalyzer recorded a reading of 4.60.
The man was detained, fast-track criminal proceedings were launched, and his vehicle will be seized as evidence.
Under Bulgaria's Criminal Code, a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 1.2 constitutes a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment, a fine and suspension of the right to drive.
Alcohol levels of around 4.0 and above can have life-threatening consequences, including severe impairment of coordination and consciousness, loss of consciousness, coma, and respiratory and cardiac complications.
The Sofia Directorate of Interior is expected to provide further details during a special briefing, including the circumstances under which the driver was stopped and his condition during the inspection.
Police also reported that since the beginning of the year they have identified 118 drivers with blood alcohol levels above 1.2, including 56 with levels exceeding 2.0.
